Reclaiming Traditional Japanese Folk Houses
We first evaluate the old house to determine if we can use the materials in new or existing structures. Before dismantling the house, the beams are all numbered and documented, and the house is carefully taken apart. All beams, posts, and materials are taken to the workshop and each piece is cleaned, polished, and repairs are made if needed. Master carpenters then pre-assemble the materials.
